Just over a month ago I caught up for lunch with a group of ladies I use to work with.  Most of us hadn’t seen each other for nearly 3 years so it was great to see everyone again and hear what everyone is doing now.

One of the ladies who I worked closely with had changed industries and when asked what she was doing, she replied “just admin”.  Oh my goodness that sounded just like me a few years ago, not realising back then how important my role was at work.

I have worked in sales all my life and if you have ever worked in a sales industry the sales people are the more important part of the business as they bring in the income.

It is all very well to bring in the sales for the business, but once you have made the sale the admin staff play a very important role which is processing the commissions,  sending out the required letters, forms and any other information that needs to go to the new client.  Then there is the ongoing tasks which include paying the accounts, paying wages to the staff, buying the stationery and any other office supplies so the business can keep on operating.

The sales team also need the admin staff to help them with their marketing tasks, such as; set up mail merges, get the mail outs posted, create monthly newsletters, create flyers, make sure the marketing letters, emails & text messages go out and keep the business social media sites up to date on a weekly basis with new informative  marketing material.

So in fact the admin staff are just as important as any other person in the organisation   Everyone plays an important role in business.  Once you have got the balance right you have a successful running business.

Since working for myself as a virtual assistant I have learnt how important the admin role is.  We all have our strengths and weaknesses, its a matter of having the right people working in the right roles to match their strengths.

It is important to remember a VA is invested in in the success of her clients.  She knows that if her clients’ business succeeds, so too does her business.
